My Illegal E-Bike ?
I bought a New E-Bike
Found out that this Bike is Illegal to Buy, Sell in California says CHP.
California Ready. Class 2 500w x 750w Peek, 20 mph max 40 mil range Direct Drive. = All good but No Decal saying class type, Wattage, Max Speed o place not even in the documentation.
So They claim, But when I got it there is nothing to show what Class the bike is, No UL Number, No Bike Tag showing nothing.
Called Walmart to return the item but received no reply due to all the missing legal documentation needed for the bike.
Walmart website Says 90 day return but the store will not accept it. They want me to pay to have it shipped back to china.
Will wait for the class action suite to start.
So I am Out $309.00 I got off easy says a lot of people in the same boat as I am in.

It is likely legal to ride an e-bike without stickers, as laws generally hold manufacturers or distributors responsible for applying these labels at the point of sale, not the end consumer. If your bike is a home-built conversion or a kit installation, there is no specific legal mandate requiring you to apply a label yourself.
However, if your e-bike is a factory-built model purchased from a retailer, many state laws (such as California’s Vehicle Code Section 312.5) require that the manufacturer or distributor permanently affix a label displaying the class number, top assisted speed, and motor wattage in Arial font with at least 9-point type.
Factory-Built Bikes: If the bike was sold without a label, the manufacturer or distributor may have failed to comply with state labeling statutes, but this typically does not make the owner’s possession or use illegal.
One week thy say it’s legal then next week thy say this is Illegal?
My neighbor who is a CHP cop said last week that my bike was Illegal to ride or resale the bike. so i gave him the bike to use as a show in their rarely demonstration.
His boss are going nuts nobody knows what the laws on e-bikes are they keep changing almost daily
I reported to the seller about my bike and he is refunding my money all through I no-longer have the bike. That is very nice of him.
Walmart should be ashamed most of their bikes they sell online is Illegal in one way or another without any doubt.
Today Aug 18 2026 : They gave me my bike back it’s no longer Illegal ?? They are going to wait until Jan 1 2027 to enforce the new required sticker laws.
So they are returning my bike. I In informed my sell of the bike, and he to is glade. He stooped the refund all all is now good. and thanked me for my honesty in the matter.
